TracTuff DIY Extreme Clearance K Water Neck Kit
EXTREME CLEARANCE!!! Yup, that's what you get with this kit. Geared specifically towards (but not limited to) the "Front Engine Rear Wheel Drive" market and those situations where the rear of the RBB/ RBC cylinder head is buried into the firewall.
I will not sell either component of this kit separately as they are only meant to work together... so please do not ask.
The outlet on the K24A, K24A2, and K20Z3 sits over the transmission and I've seen that this creates trouble in several situations and as the popularity of the k swap grows, I fully expect that this scenario will also. The four bolt block-off measures 11/16" thick and takes less space than the traditional K20 cam sensor or an 1/8" more than the K24 cam sensor giving you the MAXIMUM clearance possible. The flange uniquely merges the original water outlet with the traditionally unused EGR passage on RBB and RBC cylinder heads, sending water to the intake manifold flange surface, where a hybrid water bypass adapter re-merges the EGR port with the enlarged original water bypass port to achieve a level of flow that allows this unique water bypass to serve as an outlet.
I highly recommend the purchase of the M5 Drill and Tap Kit to support the standard upper link... here is "How to" drill the cylinder head for the "optional" M5 retaining bolt. The hardware kit includes installation hardware and o-rings (not shown) for the block-off and the water bypass outlet. The Standard hose connection variant includes a 1-1/4" u-bend that you would cut up and weld to create an outlet and the -16 variant includes a custom machined -16 male flare bung. Both are available welded if you don't have the means... just see my other listings.
NOTE: This product can only be used with the RBB/ RBC/ RSP cylinder heads that DO NOT have a COMPLETE EGR SYSTEM. The passage that comes to the intake manifold surface must be unused and available.
It is MADATORY that you open up the cylinder heads original water bypass port using the bypass outlet itself as a template to increase water flow. The original passage combined with the unused EGR passage is not enough. The cylinder bypass port MUST be enlarged. DO NOT buy this product if you are not prepared or capable of performing this task. The original .500" water bypass hole does not provide enough flow.
The bypass outlet itself should be used to scribe a line in the heads surface, allowing you to transfer the shape of the passage, giving you lines to stay within as you grind. I have opened the .500" hole up to .830" x .920" at the widest points to increase flow enough to be combined with the .750" EGR passage and serve as the new outlet.
If you are using AN lines, it is IMPERATIVE that you design the upper radiator hose so that there is droop/ give in the hose so the engines movement does not push/ pull on water bypass outlet; the upper link and/ or link and small M5 bolt combo should not be under stress. I cannot emphasize this enough! It’s even more critical in a FWD environment due to the short upper hose.
The block-off does NOT have a heater outlet (remember... you don't have room for it) so you will need to find another outlet elsewhere on the block; I recommend my M28 to -10 male flare adapter.
DISCLAIMER: Billet parts are cleaned in a ultrasonic cleaning tank with a proprietary solution just prior to packaging. No prep is necessary. It is important that you add a few drops of oil to your finished products threads prior to assembly to prevent galling. If you are going to check thread mesh prior to welding, be sure to lubricate the threads and clean again prior to welding.
